“All Saints for the City” free concert November 4th

Mark your calendars for a wonderful free music service on Sunday, November 4th at 3 PM at First United Methodist Church, 518 19th St N, Birmingham, AL 35203.  Our church choir joins the First United Methodist Church choir, directed by Patrick Evans, for a memorial concert  and liturgy, “All Saints for the City.”  Together, we’ll memorialize the lives of people in our community who have died from gun violence, domestic violence, members of the LGBTQ community, and others in the Birmingham area who died in the previous year.

The choirs will perform both separately and jointly.  Our choir will sing “Flight Song” and “Sicut Cervus.” Both choirs will sing “Ubi Carritas” and “The Road Home,” and will combine with orchestra for the Alabama premiere of Jake Runestad’s multi-movement work “Into the Light” for Chorus and Orchestra, with texts from the Bible, Martin Luther King, Jr., Hellen Keller, and others. The piece was commissioned and premiered in September of 2017 by Valparaiso University to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
