The Birmingham Refugee Interest Group, a local interfaith ministry team, is sponsoring an asylum-seeking family from Angola, Africa, and we are asking for your support in extending our shared southern hospitality.
The Birmingham Refugee Interest Group was formed in 2016 to provide direct support, education, and advocacy for refugees in Birmingham and around the world. The group was formed under the auspices of the Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham, and is open to all. There are now about 100 members, representing many different faith-based groups and other organizations.
We are sponsoring an asylum-seeking family, and we need interpreters who speak Portuguese, French or Spanish. The family needs furniture donations, clothing, computer, people who can drive them to their appointments, English as a Second Language assistance, etc. It’s a wonderful opportunity to help a family struggling toward a better life. If you would like to be on a list of volunteers who can provide assistance, please send an email to our project coordinator, Debbie Soniat.
Thank you for helping to make a difference in the life of this family!
