This page remains as a memorial to Tommy Thompson, who passed away unexpectedly on April 28th.
Tommy was a Birmingham native with long ties to the local musical scene. He originally studied music at the University of Alabama, playing with the Million Dollar Band, singing operatic tenor roles, and performing as an oboist with local symphonic groups. After detours through other careers in the culinary arts and pediatric nursing, he returned to music, earning degrees in choral music education and speech pathology at the University of Montevallo.
He has been attending the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham regularly for fifteen years and has been a long time member of the adult choir. He founded the children’s choir program at the church and has created and produced the holiday pageant program. He was heavily involved in the local arts community and was a member of the Alabama Symphony Chorus, the Opera Birmingham Chorus, and has had various roles with local theater groups, both onstage and off. He served as the company manager for Opera Birmingham and as the Wig and Makeup designer for Red Mountain Theater Company.
