The Community Outreach group is a subgroup within the Justice Committee that is actively involved in a number of current service projects:
- We cook meals once a month at the Firehouse Shelter
- We bring casseroles and donations to Pathways and Greater Birmingham Ministries
The Refugee Interest Group was organized in October 2016 to identify ways our church can support refugees. The group is partnering with the local Muslim Community Center, the Catholic Social Services Refugee Resettlement program in Mobile, and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee to identify and implement programs to support refugees.
We consider community service a necessary component of the religious education of our young people. Children and youth have engaged in hands-on projects in which they assist members of the larger community in various ways. Past projects include sending care packages to send to soldiers in Iraq, volunteering with the American Council of the Blind, putting together toiletry packets for foster children, working with Heifer Project, International, and providing holiday decorations to nursing homes and homeless shelters.
