From small disappointments to major suffering, taking responsibility for our hardships yields a healthier, happier life. Based on the speaker’s experience and research, the model of practicing radical acceptance and responsibility in everyday life not only helps us heal from past pain, but also equips us with the skills needed to face whatever life has in store. Though specific coping mechanisms differ from person to person, this overarching outlook serves as a foundation for addressing life’s difficulties. Please be advised that some examples discussed may be upsetting to younger listeners.
Our guest speaker is Emily Johnson, a 26-year-old fundraiser and public speaker for a local nonprofit. Originally from Montevallo, AL, Emily has lived in the Birmingham region her entire life. She has been attending our church since 2014 and serves on the Worship Associates Committee and the choir.
