A Welcoming Congregation
It's official! We successfully completed the Action Steps, took a congregational vote in April, and submitted our application. Now we've joined our sister congregations in Auburn, Huntsville, and Montgomery by becoming a Welcoming Congregation.
Coming soon to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham. Magic City Interweave, a diversified group of LGBT members, that will meet to share new ideas, create new social opportunities, discuss issues, and aid our church, in learning more about our lifestyle. This group will have a commitment to serve single and partnered LGBT attendees as well as people that are in or out of the closet, with or without children or allies. As our group is in the organizing stages this is your opportunity to become a charter member of something that has been missing in our church. We were represented at the Birmingham Pridefest on Sunday June 14, 2009 at Sloss furnace,letting other people know about what a special place UUCB is for all its LGBT members. BAGSLY is the Birmingham Allliance of Gay, Straight, Lesbian (and questioning) Youth. It meets at the church, 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 6:30 - 8 pm. Meetings are open to youth between the ages 14-20. Jessica York is the contact.
BAGSLY t-shirts show you support full and equal rights for all people - no matter what their affectional orientation. Purchase the t-shirts for only $10 in the narthex Sunday or contact the church office. We have sizes medium - 2XXL in teal, periwinkle, pink and black (not all colors in all sizes).
